The China Editorial Director also develops and manages key relationships with industry, government, media and academia inChina, and advance Platts’ thought leadership and reputation in price discovery across all commodity segments. 


Principal Accountabilities / Duties / Responsibilites:&lt;?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /&gt;

Manage and developChinaeditorial staff
·    Provide leadership and guidance to Platts' editorial staff inChina, currently concentrated inBeijingandShanghai.
·    Attract new talent to the organization, ensure they are properly trained, and actively work to further develop the skills and expertise of existing staff.

Editorial strategy and business development:
·    Work with the Asia Editorial Director, regional managers, global directors and GMs to identify opportunities to grow our footprint and brand equity inChina
·    Seek and evaluate strategic partnerships; advise internally on China-related issues within Platts.
·    Focus especially on developing our editorial expertise and on guiding our outreach efforts in coal, steel and raw materials, petrochemicals, and LNG.

External representation and relationship building:
·    Be the "Platts face" inChina. Speak at our own forums and selected third-party conferences in the country. Actively engage with the local media.
·    Raise Platts’ profile inChina’s oil, petrochemicals, metals, power, and gas sectors by establishing and nurturing high-level relationships with the government, major players, regulatory authorities and energy industry-oriented educational institutions inChina.

Supervise content quality and development:
·    Ensure quality of editorial content produced by ourChinastaff in our own products as well as joint products developed with local partners.
·    Participate in development of new content offerings for theChinamarket and from theChinamarket through extensive engagement with customers and industry.

Customer focus:
·    Interact with subscribers via customer visits to ensure that Platts is delivering the best possible content to the Chinese commodities markets.
 
* Fluency in Chinese, sound knowledge of Chinese culture and business practice

The successful candidate will assist the editorial staff on Platts non-ferrous metals and steel publications and realtime news products in writing up press releases, occasionally attending press events, proofreading, copy-editing of stories for publication in Platts Steel Markets Daily and also in Platts Metals Week and its daily supplements and helping ensure that deadlines are met. The candidate will also be given opportunities to engage in original reporting and will assist with the administration of stringer payments from time-to-time and some of our day-to-day data entry requirements. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn how commodities markets work, both physical markets and futures markets, and learn about the significance of the multitude of raw materials that go into the making of steel and base metals. This will include learning about various factors that can move commodities prices, besides changes to supply and demand. The successful candidate will also learn about the role of Platts in assessing various commodities markets in the steel and non-ferrous metals sector, and also in other commodity areas in energy and power.



Required:


The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, both vocal and written and should be numerate and a well-organised. Previous reporting skills will be an advantage.

McGraw-Hill Professional has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Acquisitions Editor in its market-leading test-prep and review program based in our New York City office.

The Senior Acquisitions Editor provides strategic direction for assigned areas in the allied-health and medical test-preparation program, acquires 17-20 new and revised titles annually, and ensures that all acquired titles are produced in keeping with the established strategy. 

Essential Accountabilities
* Develop and execute a strategic publishing plan for both print and online content in allied-health/medical test-preparation program, which includes market research, development of relationships with core thought leaders, consideration and research of proposals for new and revised titles in the areas managed, and successfully negotiating and signing 17-20 contracts per year with authors.
* Publish approximately 20 titles per year, obtaining complete manuscripts as contracted and assisting production with problem solving, author relations, and other tasks as needed to ensure publication on schedule and within budget.
* Work with colleagues in the online group to ensure that content acquired meets our digital publishing needs and to provide content to production that can be utilized in the digital environment.
* Serve as main contact with authors and the primary source of product information through the lifetime of content acquired. This includes interacting with marketing and sales to ensure they are able to present product information as well as advocating for best efforts for every saleable product on the lists managed.
* Effectively represent McGraw-Hill to outside authors and contributors.
* Continuously keep abreast of market conditions, trends, and needs through interaction with medical professionals, travel to medical conferences, and interaction with sales reps and marketing staff.
* Ensure that international aspects are addressed in published titles as appropriate, such as through the use of international reviews of proposals, internationally-based authors and contributors, and interaction with instructors and sales and marketing staff throughout McGraw Hill subsidiaries.

* Bachelors Degree or higher.
* Approximately 4-6 years experience in medical or test-prep publishing, which may include acquisitions, developmental editing, or marketing work.
* 3 or more years of acquisitions experience is strongly preferred.
* Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills.
* Ability to juggle myriad details while maintaining a "big-picture" strategic view.
* Able to work in a self-directed manner while still being an excellent team-player/leader.

Essential Accountabilities
* Manage team of five in-house science editors to oversee content production of articles that will feed AccessScience, the Yearbook, and the 20-volume EST. Work with editors to choose and maintain database of outside consulting editors and authors and ensure that articles meet quality and scope standards. Maintain publishing schedule for annual Yearbook of Science &amp; Technology.
* Develop and execute digital content acquisition strategy for AccessScience. Develop growth strategy; identify content opportunities, and execute strategy. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and success of projects, measuring actual results against desired outcomes.
* Set strategic direction for AccessScience that considers market, competition, revenue potential, and business model.
* Assess, review and approve digital investments and be accountable for managing the investments and commitments to stay within budgets.
* 10-12 years of experience in science publishing required including at least 2-3 years in a senior editorial capacity.
* Proven experience developing web-based content for the reference market.
* Demonstrated successful business negotiations, partner management and implementation skills.
* Demonstrated success outlining and implementing strategic vision for growth
* Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage collaboration across internal departments and across divisions.
* Proven experience managing processes, multiple vendors (domestic and off-shore), resources, and team management
* Experience in project design, scheduling, and project management
* Excellent communication skills including a sensitivity and awareness of international issues
* Demonstrated ability to strive for results while maintaining good relations with internal and external customers.
* Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in a a scientific field.

We require a Financial Language Editor with fluent Turkish language capability for our London office. The role is an integral part of the company's global research operations; you will have responsibility for the translation and processing of financial documents.

Your main responsibilities will include:
* Identification and translation of relevant financial and non-financial information.
* Building and maintaining financial dictionaries and translation memories.
* Conducting primary and secondary research to complete our financial coverage.
